Easy Salmon au Gratin Recipe (2024)

This Salmon au Gratin Recipe has been inspired by a product I received for review but all opinions expressed here are my own.

Every couple of months I make a trip to Whole Foods and stock up on seafood. Having grown up in New England I can honestly say that there are very few seafood dishes that I don’t care for but I want my fish fresh and sustainably harvested.

Wild caught salmon is one of my favorite dishes to make and this salmon au gratin recipe turned out delicious. The thing I love most about salmon is that it is so versatile. You can bake it, make it into salmon burgers, or throw it on the grill. The possibilities are endless and thankfully my family loves it.

How to Make This Easy Salmon Recipe

Made with salmon fillets, milk, butter, and grated cheese, this creamy Salmon au Gratin is an easy comfort food recipe. Add real Old Bay seasoning for the best flavor!

    1. Place the salmon in the pan. Squeeze on fresh lemon juice and season to taste.
    2. Now you need to make the cheese sauce. Start with melting the butter and saute the garlic for a few minutes.
    3. Make the roux by adding flour and milk and cooking til thickened. See the recipe card for info on how to make a roux.
    4. Now it’s time to add the cheese. I go with very sharp cheddar! Add the shredded cheese and Old Bay seasoning. Heat until cheese is melted.
    5. Pour the cheese sauce over the fish. Make sure your pan is big enough. Save any leftover cheese sauce for some macaroni and cheese.
    6. Grill or bake the salmon at 350 degrees until done
    7. Remove from the heat and sprinkle with green onions and a little bit more Old Bay if desired.
    8. Let cool slightly before serving.
