Mets Daily Prospect Report, 7/12/24: Wins aplenty (2024)

Triple-A: Syracuse Mets (46-28/8-6)

GAME ONE: SYRACUSE 6, SCRANTON/WILIKES-BARRE 5 / 7 (BOX)

The Mets won game one of their double header against the RailRiders in walk off fashion, but there was plenty of fireworks before the walk off as well.

The Mets ran out to a 3-0 lead in the first, with Luke Ritter, Mike Brosseau, and the newly promoted JT Schwartz driving in the runs. A Pablo Reyes second inning home run made it 4-0. They would lose said lead, with Tylor Megill surrendering two runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth to make it a tie game. Shintaro Fujinami surrendered a solo shot in the top of the seventh to put them behind for the first time on the day.

The Mets quickly rallied against old friend Phil Bickford, with Luisangel Acuña starting the inning with a single, stealing second, and advancing to third on a wild pitch. Reyes would work a walk, steal second, and a second wild pitch saw Acuña run home with the tying run. Luke Ritter ended up playing hero, hitting a walk off single to secure the comeback.

Triple-A: Syracuse Mets (46-28/9-6)

GAME TWO: SYRACUSE 2, SCRANTON/WILIKES-BARRE 1 / 7 (BOX)

Game two was much more of a struggle for the offense than game one, in two completely different ways. On the Mets side, Dominic Hamel dealt, going six of the seven innings, surrendering just four hits and a run (a solo homer to Taylor Trammell in the fifth), while striking out five and walking one. The Mets faced five different pitchers and also only collected four hits, scoring two runs — the first on a Pablo Reyes triple in the third, and the second on a Carlos Cortes single in the fifth.

Much like their major league counterparts, the bullpen had issues closing the win out. Bryce Montes de Oca got the call for the save, but walked two and allowed two stolen bases — with only one out — to get himself into a jam. He got the second out, but Wilkin Ramos was called upon to finish the job, and he did, striking out the one batter he faced.

Double-A: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (35-32/8-6)

BINGHAMTON 4, NEW HAMPSHIRE 0 (BOX)

Binghamton’s pitching staff was the star of the day. Jordan Geber, Cameron Foster, and Trey McLoughlin combined to allow just four hits and six base runners in total over the shutout win, keeping New Hampshire’s offense on their heels all game.

Offensively, they did more than enough to secure the win with as good as the Binghamton pitching staff was on the day. Alex Ramirez manufactured a run in the first, singling to lead off the game, stealing second, stealing third, and scoring on a throwing error on the play. Jeremiah Jackson homered in the second inning to make it 2-0, Kevin Parada singled in the third to make it 3-0, and he homered in the sixth to put the finishing touches on the 4-0 win.

High-A: Brooklyn Cyclones (33-33/6-12)

BROOKLYN 5, WILMINGTON 1 (BOX)

Wilmington scored the first run of the game, but Brooklyn came back won with some good late inning offense. Trailing 1-0 after five, Brooklyn got on the board with an RBI triple by Christopher Suero to tie it at one in the sixth. A wild pitch saw him come home with the second run of the inning.

That two run lead held until the ninth, when Brooklyn loaded the bases and walked three times to turn a 2-1 lead into a 5-1 lead.

Single-A: St. Lucie Mets (22-44/7-11)

ST. LUCIE 8, LAKELAND 3 (BOX)

St. Lucie’s first three runs came through little fault of their own, scoring on a throwing error, fielder’s choice and a balk. Kevin Villavicencio drove in the fourth run of the game with a single. Lakeland battled back to make it 4-3, but the Mets put some distance between them and Lakeland again, with a Boston Baro sacrifice fly and a Colin Houck walk. Back to back wild pitches made it 8-3 Mets, and iced the game.
