The SCA’s Building Code Compliance Division (BCC) promotes the safety and welfare of the New York City students, staff, and the general public by ensuring compliance with NYC Codes and Zoning regulations. Enhancing quality by providing technical support and ongoing training seminars to SCA Construction Management. BCC carries out the mission of the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding through the highly qualified professional staff of plan examiners and inspectors. Facilitating efficient processing of Buildings Department plan reviews, permits, and sign-offs to achieve timely completion of school projects.

Job Description SummaryThe Engineer - B is responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed, to achieve the objectives of the Authority.

Job DescriptionResponsibilities include:

• Design and review construction documents, per applicable construction codes, for Capital Improvement Projects.
• Coordinate among the engineering disciplines and between drawings and specification, to ensure compliance with code and SCA standard.
• Address RFI's, perform site visits to meet with stakeholders, and review shop drawings for ensure conformance with design.
• May direct other internal stakeholders such as Engineers, Architects, Quality Assurance Specialists, Technical Inspectors, Associate Engineers and Associate Architects, and Architectural/Engineering Technicians, working on several more complex design and construction projects such as new schools, modernizations, additions, leased spaces, and CIP projects.
• May operate as a project leader on capital improvement projects.
• May be required to sign, seal and file engineering drawings.
• May act as a discipline leader in a department to train and develop internal staff in a specific engineering discipline.
• Provides mentoring for professional development of junior level employees.
• Trains new SCA employees and contingent staff, as well as outside design consultants, on SCA standards and procedures.
• Perform related duties, as assigned.
• May perform duties of Engineer - A.

• Incumbent Rate: $96,292 - $130,492

Work ExperienceThree years of full-time paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer; two years must be as a project engineer; project, team, or squad leader; or a comparable level of responsibility. Selective Certification for Special Experience. Electrical: three years of full time paid post-licensure experience in electrical work as a Professional Engineer; two years must be as a project engineer; project team, or squad leader; or a comparable level of responsibility; a minimum of seven years total experience specializing in electrical work. This can be any combination of pre-licensure and post-licensure work as long as the post-licensure experience requirement is met. Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning: three years of full time paid post-licensure experience in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning work as a Professional Engineer; two years must be as a project engineer; project team, or squad leader; or a comparable level of responsibility; a minimum of seven years total experience specializing in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning work. This can be any combination of pre-licensure and post-licensure work as long as the post-licensure experience requirement is met. Plumbing and Drainage: three years of full time paid post-licensure experience in plumbing and drainage work as a Professional Engineer; two years must be as a project engineer; project team, or squad leader; or a comparable level of responsibility; a minimum of seven years total experience specializing in plumbing and drainage work. This can be any combination of pre-licensure and post-licensure work as long as the post-licensure experience requirement is met. Structural: three years of full time paid post-licensure experience in structural work as a Professional Engineer; two years must be as a project engineer; project team, or squad leader; or a comparable level of responsibility; a minimum of seven years total experience specializing in structural work. This can be any combination of pre-licensure and post-licensure work as long as the post-licensure experience requirement is met. Inspection: three years of full time paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer; two years must be as a project engineer; project leader with inspection or observation duties regarding code compliance of critical areas of construction; or a comparable level of responsibility.
