This degree map provides the semester-by-semester course sequencing a full-time student will follow to complete this degree. To earn the Associate in Applied Science degree, you must achieve a grade point average of 2.5 as a minimum on all coursework required for the degree. Note the Milestones below each semester. Milestones are reminders of actions you should take during that semester to help keep you on track for degree completion.

Prerequisites

  • PHYS 1114 - General Physics I (L)
  • BIOL 1314 - Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology (L)
  • ENGL 1113 - Composition I
  • MATH 1513 - Precalculus I (A)

Milestones

  • Check the academic calendar for important dates and deadlines impacting classes and financial aid.
  • To maintain financial aid eligibility, a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 1.70 during the first 30 credit hours attempted and complete 67% of the courses attempted. Review your Financial Aid Dashboard or visit the Financial Aid Office to determine your financial aid status. A 2.5 overall GPA is required for admission to the program.
  • Download MS Office from MyTCC.
  • Form a study group, join a student organization, or volunteer at a community service site.
  • Visit the writing, math and science, or technology learning centers for free individual tutoring support services.
  • Meet with a DMSacademic advisor or assigned department faculty advisor before enrolling for the next semester.
  • Attend a mandatory Allied Health Orientation.

Total Credit Hours: 13-14

First Semester - Fall

  • ALDH 1323 - Medical Terminology
  • COMM 1113 - Public Speaking
  • DMS 1002 - Introduction to Diagnostic Medical Sonography
  • DMS 1103 - Acoustical Physics and Instrumentation I

Total Credit Hours: 11

Milestones

  • Check the academic calendar for important dates and deadlines impacting classes and financial aid.
  • To maintain financial aid eligibility, a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 1.70 during the first 30 credit hours attempted and complete 67% of the courses attempted. Review your Financial Aid Dashboard or visit the Financial Aid Office to determine your financial aid status. Students must maintain a 2.5 overall GPA to progress in the program.
  • All DMS course work and scan competencies must be passed with a 75% or better to progress in the program.
  • All DMS lab competencies must be passed with a “C” or better.
  • All risk management requirements must be completed in preparation for the clinical setting (CPR, vaccinations, flu shot, TB test, etc.) including clearance on background check and negative drug screen.
  • Meet with an academic advisor or assigned department faculty advisor one time each semester, or as needed.

Second Semester - Spring

  • DMS 1213 - Acoustical Physics and Instrumentation II
  • DMS 1223 - Abdominal Sonography I
  • DMS 1233 - OB/GYN Sonography I
  • DMS 1242 - Sonography Clinical Practice I (includes one (1) day of clinical education)
  • HIST 1483 - U.S. History 1492 to the Civil War Era
  • OR

  • HIST 1493 - U.S. History - Civil War Era to the Present

Total Credit Hours: 14

  • To maintain financial aid eligibility, a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 if 31 or more hours have been attempted and complete 67% of the courses attempted. Review your Financial Aid Dashboard or visit the Financial Aid Office to determine your financial aid status. Students must maintain a 2.5 overall GPA to progress in the program.
  • All DMS course work and scan competencies must be passed with a 75% or better to progress in the program.
  • All DMS lab competencies must be passed with a “C” or better.
  • Meet with an academic advisor or assigned department faculty advisor one time each semester, or as needed.
  • At the successful completion of this semester, students are required to take their SPI (Sonography Physics and Instrumentation) exam with ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers).

Third Semester - Summer

  • DMS 1252 - Sonography Clinical Practice II (includes three (3) days of clinical education)
  • DMS 1263 - Vascular Sonography I

Total Credit Hours: 5

  • DMS 2133 - OB/GYN Sonography II

Fifth Semester- Spring

  • DMS 2131 - Ultrasound Seminar
  • DMS 2145 - Sonography Clinical Practice IV
  • DMS 2153 - Vascular Sonography II
  • POLS 1113 - American Federal Government

Total Credit Hours: 12
