Last week at #FDDAY, France Digitale, in collaboration with 18 other European startup associations, launched LETS (Leading European Tech Scaleups), a label to highlight 135 European made companies that stand out for their international footprint and the sustainability of their business model, rather than their mere valuation.Malt is one of them - and we are very happy about it!LETS makes sense for 3 reasons:1 - Scaling in 🇪🇺 is hard, your awareness in your home country is non-existent when you open another, everything that can help with it is welcome2 - LETS is just at the beginning, with now 135 identified Scaleups, there should be more and more joining the movement in the coming years3 - LETS should become an identified label, that candidates or clients value as a sign of trustAnd hopefully, LETS should die the day that more companies think “Europe” before thinking “motherland”.

A week ago today we did something big – something that changes the way we see ourselves, and how others see us. Comms specialists from the Latvian startup ecosystem came together to define a new narrative – one to replace the common phrases that we have inadvertently internalized and repeat, but which don’t leave a good impression about the perspective of the country, and which undermine our success (not to mention ones that can be easily refuted with facts). You know the ones. Instead, we’re replacing them with phrases that we know to be true:- we have incredible startup policies- we have an unusual amount of talented people- we are successful, we just don’t like to shout about it.Over a multiple-hour workshop, this new narrative (read the full narrative in the Labs of Latvia article) was refined and honed by the startup community. It was important that this comes from the community, rather than some higher-up government institution, or some foreign branding specialist. And yes, that meant embracing concepts that speak to the Latvian character. We are “normāli”, we are “small”. And you know? These terms hold a lot of potential in them. I’d be happy to talk to anybody interested and go deeper into each meticulously chosen word in the narrative. When WilderTrips applied for Ignite's Pre-Accelerator back in December 2023, I promised myself I'd share our pitch deck if we were successful in the hope that it may help others.Since this pitch, things have changed a little:👉 We've grown from 500 to 1188 users👉 We've grown from 30 to 103 paying customers👉 Our application was successful!
