...and I noticed a few things:

Done to death I know, but I had a few observations:

1) Mr Gore must have, by far and away, the largest "carbon footprint" on the planet. Almost every interview was of him on a plane visiting (apparently) "thousands" of destinations worldwide. His final extollation to his audience was "you can, as an individual, can make a difference";

2) There was no mention of the effect of methane as a greenhouse gas - far more deadlier than CO2 - and probably easier to deal with;

3) I felt the references to his son nearly dying, his sister (I think) dying of lung cancer and him (apparently unfairly) losing the election were just unabated emotional tools to win over the hearts of the audience;

4) He claimed on the one hand that scientists are being leaned on heavily to water down their research and that they were under great pressure not to reveal the true extent of the problem. He also says that a survey, of the top 1000 scientific papers on global and climate change, all 1000 were in agreement that it is happening as he asserts. The above seems rather contradictory to me;

5) He is unashamadly vitriolic against those who disagree with his assertion that GW is happeneing the way he is suggesting - in fact he puts them in the same category as the scientists who defended the tobacco industry in the 1960's. As such, this sort of "vilification" is surely killing off a reasoned scientific debate;

6) I also watched a documentary last night (I was on a long flight) about the Dixie Chicks comments in 2003 - that they were against the war in Iraq. The stuff they had to suffer for the sake of a few words was unbelievable - reminded me of The Beatles "we're bigger than Jesus" comments in the 1960s (destroying records, etc). In this documentary it showed the "absolute certainty" of WMD in Iraq, and anyone who questioned it was deemed a heretic worthy of death. And of course we all know the real situation now! I get the same feeling that any questioning voices regarding GW (in the UK at least) are considered just one above, say, racists another hot topic.

What I'd like to see personally, is a transparent, balanced and reasoned debate with equal visibility from all sides - without any judgement, emotion, politics, business, funding opportunities present. However, I believe I'm hoping in vain.

Nah, at least not in my experience. The nutsos you see on the news are just that.

Remember that this is a president who has an approval rating circa 30%

Both programmes are equally convincing depending on your viewpoint as you watch, and both are as flawed as each other. And, frankly they are both as irrelevant as each other as people have made their minds up already.

I'm bored of the whole thing and don't give a toss either way. Both sides are as bad and as arrogant as each other!

The whole subject is... I watched "An Inconvenient Truth" last night - Page 1 - The Pie & Piston Archive (25)

Gore's Hitleresque appeal to the masses is a little disturbing, don't you think...?

No disrespect but both programmes are only equally convincing if you have little or no knowledge of the underlying science and are unaware of the dispreputable nature of climate modelling - plus the fact that all the doomsday scenarios are based on political interfrerence in the already inadequate climate modelling, they're not based on climate data.

The above category makes up 99% up of the British public, so Gore's quackumentary is monumentally dangerous as well as monumentally misleading.

There was a rather lengthy thread on Gore's movie in P&P, check it out.

I'm here to educate you about the single biggest threat to our planet. You see, there is something out there that threatens our very existence, and may be the end to the human race as we know it. I'm talking of course, about Manbearpig.

It is a creature which roams the Earth alone. It is half man, half bear, and half pig. Some people say that Manbearpig isn't real. Well I'm here to tell you now Manbearpig is very real, and he most certainly exists. I'm serial.

Manbearpig doesn't care who you are or what you've done. Manbearpig simply wants to get you. I'm super serial.

But have no fear because I am here to save you, and someday when the world is rid of Manbearpig everyone will say 'Thank you, Al Gore. You're super awesome".

The end.
